Day 7: Glacier National Park

How loudly can one hike?

After making bacon and eggs at our camp site (because that’s what you do for breakfast when camping), we set off to see some of Glacier. Because it was so early in the season, most of the park was yet to open, including the “Going to the Sun” road which is supposed to be one of the most scenic drives in the country.

We chose a 3 hour hike on a trail recently opened, which proved to still have snow on the ground in some spots but was great overall. It terminated at a beautiful lake surrounded by snow capped mountains.

The most eventful part of the trip though was trying to come up with way to make enough noise to let the bears know of our presence. Apparently if they hear you coming they’ll get out of the way, and the last thing we want is a surprised bear. So we talked, clapped, coo-eed (that’s the Aussie coming out in me) and thankfully did not bump into any bears on the trail.

We originally intended to stay another night at Glacier but it was too cold (below freezing at night) and too much of the park was closed so we decided to continue on.
