Day 9: Craters of the Moon National Park, Idaho

No craters, but lots of volcanic debris

On our way from Yellowstone to Arches National Park, we thought we’d take a detour to Craters of the Moon National Park, the primary attraction being the coolest park name ever. It’s a sea of volcanic rock left over from lava flows, with scattered islands of cinder cones and sagebrush. My favorite, of course, was the sparkalator rocks, that seemed to have been heated so much that the metals surfaced and now glitter on the outside of the stones.

After the park, we continued onto Trementon, where we stayed in a crappy hotel and went to Denny’s - an American chain diner fully equipped with booths and senior discounts - for dinner and breakfast!
