Day 37: Versailles, France

A modest home

From Paris we did a day trip to Versailles, where Louis XIV (and a few others after him) resided and ran the country. The building and interior decoration was incredible, with HUGE lifesize paintings and ceiling reliefs that make you pause and think about the effort and skill involved. The Hall of Mirrors was particularly impressive, it included 17 large windows overlooking the expanse of gardens, with a wall to ceiling mirror (we’re talking approx 8-9 meters tall) on the opposite wall. Pretty awesome site for a ball I must say.

Then we ventured into the gardens on our golf cart, we thought we’d do it in style. This enabled us to see more in the short time we had left, it also enabled the boys to be boys and play “how many ways can we break the rules” game. Last time Chris was at Versailles he discovered that the buggies are on some sort of GPS system, whereby if you leave the designated trail, you are shut down and told to reverse. Of course when this happened to us, we decided to do a u-turn, which proved eventful when we could only go in reverse since we were now facing the wrong way. The incident involved some pushing and creative driving in reverse.

Versailles was cool—recommended.
