Weekend activities

Because one day of partying just isn’t enough, we’ve planned a few events over the weekend. Here’s the deal:

Saturday afternoon, March 5

Sailing on Sydney Harbour, 1-5pm

Our version of the America's Cup race is on—Americans versus Aussies! We’ve got 2 yachts to race and an observation boat for those who’d rather sip champagne than provide ballast.

Arrive at Eastsail, d’Albora Marina, New Beach Road, Ruchcutters Bay by 1pm. (Directions)

Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, drinking water, camera, and a warm top if cold/windy. Eastsail will supply wet weather gear if it’s raining. Also, no hard-sole shoes are allowed—sneakers are OK.

We need to put money down (the total is about AU$5,000) for the yachts and we need your contribution of AU$100/person (US$75/person) ahead of time. Please pay by Friday Feb 18, for payment options.

Don’t worry, no sailing experience necessary, as we’ll be hiring professionals to actually tell us what to do.

Saturday evening, March 5

7pm–? at the The Oaks Hotel, a true Aussie pub

To help us recover from our sailing exploits, we’ll head to The Oaks for a beer or three and some Aussie grub. We’ll be there all night, so you can come and go as you please. It’s suitable for kids of all ages, so bring the family along.

Best way to get there is by taxi (about a 10 minute ride from the city), or any bus that runs down Military Road (just ask the bus driver or a passenger to tell you when to get off for The Oaks).

Also, don’t forget that this Saturday night is also the big night of the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, which we highly recommend to the zany liberals amongst us (and of course we won’t be offended if you go.)

Sunday evening, March 07

6pm onwards, the wedding!

This isn’t just a vacation, after all. We are getting married.

Monday afternoon, March 07

1pm, Lunch at Doyles on the Beach

Photo of Doyles on the beach

For those of you who don’t have to go back to work on Monday (Americans, we’re looking in your direction), join us for a fabulous lunch at Doyles. This beach side restaurant is famous for seafood and has magnificent views of the harbour and the city. It is a little pricey, about AU$50 per person plus drinks/alcohol, but definitely worth it.

There are a few Doyles restaurants, make sure you go to the right one, we will be at Doyles on the Beach, Watsons Bay.

Get 12:10pm ferry from Circular Quay to Watsons Bay. This is a public ferry that leaves once an hour and won’t wait for you. Make sure you arrive early enough to get your ticket. (Timetable)

Again, if you haven’t done so already, email us to let us know if you will join us for lunch on Monday so we can make sure they can accommodate us.
